Veste Heldburg

Standing in eye contact with the neighboring Franconian castles, Heldburg Castle had an important task in the past: it was to send a warning in the form of fire signs to the Veste Coburg when the danger threatened, which earned it the nickname "Frankish lamp".

In good weather, visitors to the Veste are rewarded with a panoramic view from the lookout tower to the Veste Coburg, the Thuringian Forest, the Rhön, the Hassberge and the Franconian Forest.

From the year 2015 the Veste Heldburg will be the seat of the German Castle Museum. This Europe-wide unique museum integrates the Veste as original exhibition space and informs varied about the history and the life on the castles.

Since 1994, Heldburg Castle has been owned by the state of Thuringia and is administered by the Thuringian Palace and Gardens Foundation.
